My specific approach is forward-looking, focusing on your goals and desires rather than dwelling on past issues and hurdles. This approach can be particularly helpful for couples, allowing you to build a brighter future together.

ANXIETY

Fear and anxiety are common, evolutionary emotions that can help us identify and protect ourselves in dangerous situations. However, when it feels like our alarm bells are constantly ringing, it can be exhausting, leading us to avoid parts of our lives to maintain feelings of safety. Anxiety disorders encompass a range of conditions, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Specific Phobias, Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), Selective Mutism (SM), Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, and Separation Anxiety Disorder. We will work with you to systematically overcome these fears. Anxiety disorders are both incredibly common and treatable.

DEPRESSION

Feeling sad in response to an upsetting or stressful situation is a normal and healthy reaction. However, for many, this sadness is better categorized as depression—a chronic and intense feeling of sadness that is not directly tied to external factors. Depression can lead to changes such as disruptions in sleep or eating patterns, decreased energy, and a loss of interest in activities that were once pleasurable. Depression manifests differently for each person and includes various types such as persistent depressive disorder, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder. I work with patients to help them accurately identify and manage their emotional experiences, and to rediscover excitement and pleasure in previously enjoyed activities and relationships.

PARENTING

Parenting a child, adolescent, or young adult who is struggling can be extremely challenging. Often, common sense techniques or advice from well-intentioned friends are insufficient in meeting the unique needs of a struggling child. Over time, this cycle of negative interactions can leave both parents and children feeling frustrated and sometimes hopeless. This is where our work comes in. Together in therapy, we will address limit-setting and ways to support your children while building their independence and success. Parent training is a behavioral approach designed to enhance your skills in managing challenging child behaviors. Our focus is on building your skills, providing effective strategies, and helping you feel empowered to meet your child’s needs on a daily basis.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING

Executive functioning refers to higher-level cognitive functions such as attention, flexibility, inhibitory control, initiation, organization, planning, self-monitoring, and working memory. I offer executive functioning tutoring to help individuals who struggle with getting work done, frequently lose track of time and materials, have difficulty maintaining focus on tasks, and find it challenging to complete tasks within a set time-frame.

TRAUMA

Some people may experience a traumatic event that impacts them long after the event occurs. This may include directly experiencing the trauma, witnessing it, or even hearing about the trauma of others. Traumatic events can be single occurrences or involve repeated exposure. Symptoms of a traumatic response can vary in type and duration. Approximately 1 in every 3 individuals who experience trauma develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Symptoms of PTSD can include intrusive memories, nightmares, and flashbacks, as well as avoidance of situations or thoughts that remind them of the trauma. Additionally, some individuals may experience self-blame, distrust of others, and persistent changes in mood, such as sadness, fear, or guilt. Trauma survivors may also be easily startled, irritable, impulsive, and have difficulty concentrating or sleeping.

Treatments for PTSD include Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for children and adolescents, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for adults. I am trained in trauma therapy and utilize these treatments to help individuals confront and overcome their fears in response to traumatic events.
